Career & Life Focus Shift
Hi loves! I have missed you. Lots has changed in the past 7 months! You may have noticed my WHITE THUMB blog is shifting more in the direction of self help then gardening. At first it was unintentional and now it is absolutely on purpose. Gardening and Nature will always be an important part of my life and I do plan to incorporate it into my future endeavors you are about to learn about. I have had time to reflect on my life this past year since we are currently experiencing winter up here in Ohio! I find that winter time is great for this. I have really just been slowing down with my mind and body. Not looking for the next best thing or spending my time constantly thinking about what I could have or want but enjoying each day all by itself and living in the present moment with what currently is. This has allowed me to notice things that I otherwise maybe wouldn’t about myself and my surroundings. This has also allowed my Husband and I enjoy the process of trying to start a family.
I am not going to lie, in the first 2 months of trying I was so excited so I was googling everything haha! Let me tell ya, I know more about my reproductive system now then I have my entire life. However, we are in the 4th month and I am just going about my daily business enjoying what is right in front of me! My doggies, kitties, nieces, nephews, my life partner, family…. all the things that are most important! I’ve come to the conclusion that I am reallllly going to miss trying for our first baby. It has been so interesting, fun, and a great bonding experience for my husband and I.
During this time I have continued therapy and continuously working on myself in a slow relaxed pace. And dontcha know, my psychologist said you know what you would be really great and successful at? Life Coaching. WOAH life coaching? Hmmmmm why though? Im flattered but idk. Well, she mentioned “people come to therapy for help all the time and a lot continuously struggle, but you put in the work and I have seen you grow an immense amount in the past year that you’ve been seeing me. I really think you could help people transform their lives.” My first thought was ew life coaching…. those people think they know everything about life or at least that is the way it has come across to me on social media. With that first initial judgement I kept an open mind. I looked into it to find what it was all about and I was like holy fuck….. this is it. This is what I have been looking for my whole life, and this is something all of my life experiences, including my previous careers will help me with.
Here is my biggest concern…. I do not want people to think I think i’m all mighty and that I know everything because I do not. Lets go over what a life coach is and how they help people. This is what helped me realize this is something I would actually enjoy and my previous professional experience would translate really well into.
Life Coaching-
Someone who continuously wants people to become their best selves.
Holds people accountable (as much as they are comfortable with) for creating their best life.
A resource provider and facilitator that is a 3rd party with out any biases.
Helps people prioritize themselves and things that are important to them.
Having worked in the beauty industry for 10 years building a clientele and then on an Engagement Team/Campus Operations Team for a fortune 500 company for 5 years. I mean…. this is a no brainer for me. What do these all have in common? Well, a LOT of things, but the one that stands out for me the most is consulting. This was my absolute favorite part of doing hair and event planning. This is what helped me help others create what they were envisioning. I was very strong in this part of my career and I want to continue honing that skill.
I am mentally and physically in the best place I have ever been at in my life and I would love to share this with people who are ready to dive in and work to get to this place as well. You know when you’re getting ready to fly and the flight attendants give their pre-flight safety instructions? They always tell you to put your oxygen mask on first before helping others. Welp, I did that and I am continuing to do that and now I feel more than ready to help others in the way that I have helped myself but in a way that works for them.
My goal is to launch by 2025… maybe even 2024 and find 1 or 2 clients to work with in the beginning. I want to work with people who are ready and excited. While going through this unintentional life transformation of my own I realized how fortunate I am to have the support that I do. I have a wonderful husband and extremely supportive parents and I know and realize how much more difficult it would have been to accomplish these things without them. I would LOVE to be someones support who maybe doesn’t have any or maybe they do they just need unbiased guidance. While my support may be different than a family member or a partner it is a good place to start when you don’t know where to go.
I am currently completing a 6 week course on Life Coaching and then I will dive into my “Niche”. Which I feel is relationship coaching #1, Wellness #2, and Time Management #3. Funny thing is that these all go hand in hand! I am over the moon about this and look forward to working on this everyday.
What is the difference between a life coach and a therapist? Glad ya asked.
Therapists: Works towards an understanding of why someone is a certain way by digging into their past.
Coaches: Geared towards how a person can make behavioral changes to reach a particular goal. They help well adjusted people live more fulfilling lives.
We are not therapists and so therefore if we notice in our first consultation you may need help from a therapist rather than a coach in that moment we will make sure to steer you in that direction rather than moving forward with our services.
I am SOOOO excited about this. I will keep you posted on progress of my new venture!
I am going to keep my name as THE WHITE THUMB. Why you ask? Well, just like I was envisioning for gardening, I am not an expert but I may have experiences, tools, and resources that others may not and I want to share them/ help find new ones. White is a color for beginners and we are all beginners at living this life even if you believe in reincarnation. So lets work together on navigating this thing called life! It’s definitely not easy but we can work on making it enjoyable!
Love,
Bailey
